Box plot

www.xfy.com/.../1.4/spec/spec_chart.html

A boxplot, or box and whisker diagram provides a simple graphical summary of a set of data. This box plot is showing scores in different subjects including sociology, physics, geography, and math.

Histogram

escience.anu.edu.au/.../printNotes.en.html

A Histogram is a graphical display of tabulated frequencies. The Histogram uses bars to signify the tabulated frequencies. This histogram is showing the number of weeks of waiting for a contraceptive order.

Parallel coordinate graph

www.matthewtavares.com/baseball_report/

A parallel coordinate graph is a graph that plots its variables on a vertical axis and is particularly helpful when plotting large amounts of information and showing the relationships of it. Each piece of data is shown on a y axis and has a maximum point shown at the top. This parallel coordinate graph shows baseball statistics.

Triangular plot

http://www.dplot.com/triangle_plot.htm

A triangular plot is a graph that shows three different types of variables. The three variables always equal out to some constant. This graph shows soil composition with the three variables being clay, sand, and silt.

Windrose

mensch.org/vplot/windrose/

A Windrose is a plotting graph that shows wind speed using circles to represent different frequency's that increase as toward the outward direction of the circle. This Windrose shows winds in 1998 using blue circles that indicate frequency per 10 degrees.

Climograph

www.uwsp.edu/.../09_global_climate_patterns.html

A Climograph is a graphic representation of the relationship between temperature and precipitation as plotted at monthly intervals throughout the year. The graph above shows the relation between the precipitation and temperature in Walgett, Australia.

Population profile or Population pyramid

www.coventry.gov.uk/redirect/?oid=%5Bcom.arsd..

A Population pyramid shows the different age groups in a given population with the population plotted on the x axis and the age on the y axis. The graph above shows population stats for a region of the United Kingdom from a 2001 Census.

Scatterplot

www.netmba.com/statistics/plot/scatter/

A Scatterplot is a graph that shows the relationship between two variables using a line and dots around the line in most cases. The dots can indicate a strong relationship if they are close together and close fit, and also indicate a weak relationship if they are not close fit. The graph above shows a positive relationship.

Index value plot

water.usgs.gov/waterwatch/?m=pa07d&w=plot

An index value plot is a graph that is used to compare different averages to a particular year of data and give the different relative to the index value, or compared data. It uses a system of averaging out all the information except the index value and multiplying it by 100. This graph shows the average streamflow of water relative to the historical streamflow of water.

Accumulative line graph or Lorenz curve

www.frdp-maldives.gov.mv/hies/cover.htm

A Lorenz Curve is a graph that can show the amount of a variable of data, usually income, if the data was distributed equally out, and also show the actual distribution in order to show how disproportionate in most cases social financial stats actually are. This Lorenz Curve shows per capita household expenditures in 2002 and 2003.

Bilateral graph

www.globalhumanitarianassistance.org/humanita...

A bilateral graph is a graph that shows the variable as a positive or increasing number and/ or a negative or decreasing number, such as population. In this photo, from 2005 to 2006, you can see the growth in humanitarian assistance as well as the negative dips.

Nominal area choropleth map

gis.esri.com/.../proc97/to200/pap175/p175.htm

A nominal area choropleth map does not order or rank the data that it is showing. This map is showing part of Maryland and is giving information on which sections may be impacted by developmental pressure on farmland.
